What does a Fertility test do?
This test evaluates your pituitary function with regards to fertility issues.

How is the test performed?

Blood is drawn at the lab test facility.

Lab Services offered by KwikMed have not been approved by the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing and are not currently available to residents of Utah.

FSH, Serum
FSH stands for follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). This hormone is released by the anterior pituitary gland. In women, FSH stimulates production of eggs and a hormone called estradiol during the first half of the menstrual cycle. Your doctor may order this test if you have signs of certain reproductive or pituitary disorders.

In women, FSH stimulates the growth of Ovarian follicles (eggs) during the menstrual cycle.  Increased levels of FSH can indicate primary ovarian failure.  Low levels of FSH indicate secondary ovarian failure due to a pituitary or hypothalamic problem.

Normal Results: Before puberty: 0-5.0 IU/L
Normal Results: During puberty: 0.3-10.0 IU/L
Normal Results: Follicular phase of the menstrual cycle: 3.5-12.5 IU/L
Normal Results: Mid-cycle: 4.7-21.5 IU/L
Normal Results: Luteal phase of the menstrual cycle: 1.7-7.7 IU/L
Normal Results: Postmenopausal: 25.8-134.8 IU/L

Luteinizing Hormone (LH)

This test evaluates your pituitary function in terms of fertility issues.  Many women take this test if they are having trouble getting pregnant or have irregular menstrual periods. 

In women, an increase in LH levels at mid-cycle causes ovulation.  High levels of LH can indicate primary ovarian failure. Low levels of LH are typical in secondary ovarian failure and indicate a problem with the pituitary.

Normal Results:  5 to 20 (IU/L)
